Blackfoot Confederacy - Siksika nation - Learning with the land
Please watch my digital story here
This week, I created a digital story that shares what I learned about the Siksika Nation and the Blackfoot language. This story highlights history from before, during, and after contact with Europeans. Their language and how unique and wonderful it is, as well as some new words I learned, are connected to my time at Camp Connect.In my digital story, I share many new words from the Blackfoot language:
aapámiaapiikoan = European
isskóóhtsika = long ago
annohk = now
i’pówahsin = language
ponokáómitaa = horse
áápotskina = cow
i’nssimáát = plant
ksikkapístsisskitsi = aster flower
máóhtoksko = many trees/ forest
ótapi’sin = people
itákkaa = friend, of the same age
I enjoyed learning more about the land where I live. I know in the future I will use these resources in my classroom to make connections to Indigenous ways of learning and create a culturally relevant classroom. Until next time!
